MY ART STORY
It's all about light and urgency.
I am a self-taught artist based in Brighton, England. I like to capture the cyclical nature of the world we live and the feelings they evoke when I paint my abstract landscapes. I am fascinated by the interplay of light and the dynamism of the colours in nature. I hope for the viewer to be transported to a place or emotion in their own memory when they look at my paintings.
I work with a limited palette on each of my paintings but I'm not shy of bold colours, in fact my colours are always influenced by how I feel on the day! Prior to moving to England from India in 2010, I only painted intermittently. A few major contributing factors led to my development as a serious artist. Mostly it was the combination of a change of pace when I took a break from my day job and being lucky enough to live in a particularly beautiful part of the world. With the ever changing skies above the South Downs and the sea providing ample inspiration, I was hooked!
Then, in 2018 I followed my urge to research about Climate change and went off to complete a masters degree at the University of Sussex. Delving deep into the subject has affected my approach to painting. My work is now influenced by and I hope, draws attention to climate change, particularly changing weather patterns.
Among notable artists, I am greatly influenced by Turner and also by the post war artists, especially Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Yayoi Kusama. I completed an online course In The Studio: Postwar Abstract from Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2017. My painting ‘Coast Road’, painted in Barnett Newman’s zip style was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in January 2018 as part of a Digital Exhibition.
I exhibit regularly at exhibitions organised by Brighton & Hove Arts Council and at The Grange Gallery, Rottingdean.
